National Theatre Workshop for the Handicapped

Lower East Side
Manhattan, NY

Study for the gutting and reconfiguration of a Lower East Side Synagogue to house handicapped accessible performance space, related and administrative areas and bakery for the inspired performing arts program created by and for the handicapped by the charismatic Jesuit monk and baker, Brother Rick Curry. This study proved the Stanton Street site too small and too costly to renovate for this purpose. A more suitable building, formerly a photographic studio on Greenwich Street in Tribeca, was found and studied. It required very little renovation and now houses Brother Rick and his program.
